Joye Florence Brewer Woodson, beloved Mother, took the hand of Jesus and crossed into eternity on May 17, 2017. Joye was born May 30, 1930 to Ben F. and Lena Mobley Brewer in Cedar Hill, Texas.
She grew up in a large, close family during the Depression. She graduated Valedictorian in her class at 16 years old from Cedar Hill High School. Joye then graduated from Texas Woman's University with her teaching degree. Joye married John R. Woodson, Sr. of Denton. They raised three children: Janis Ann, John Jr. and Jonna Lynn. Joye Woodson taught elementary school many years in Denton. First at the old Sam Houston and then at Frank Borman when it opened
Gate Way United Baptist Church of Denton, Texas was her long time church home. She also enjoyed volunteering at Denton Regional Hospital and teaching ESL classes during retirement.
Her husband, John preceded her in death; also her parents, sister, Rachel Rhoads and brothers, Henry, Noel and Elbert Brewer.
She is survived by sister, Nancy Wright of Lone Grove, Oklahoma, her children and their families; Janis Woodson Clemett and her husband, Fred Clemett and Janis' daughter, Shannon Fail, her husband Lewis Fail and children Krista, Wesley and Dillon; John R. Woodson Jr. and his wife Claudia, with daughters Shanna, her husband Kenneth Baldwin and their children, Margo, Brecken and Cade Mellon: Lori and her husband Rusty Jones and children, Sydney, Syran, Sy Jolly, Haigen Jones and Joe and Bobby Bixby and families; Jonna Woodson Pigg and husband Jack Pigg, son Jeremy Todd Pigg and daughter Julie Encinia and her husband John Encinia.
Visiation will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors at 12:30 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2017, immediately folled by a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
