IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judith Ann
Johnston
June 1, 1949 – August 5, 2022
Judy Johnston came to live at Denton Village in November of 2016. Born in Hartford, CT on June 1, 1949, Judy was moved to Texas when she was only 2 months old. After serving as a Navy Pilot, her father took a job with American Airlines in Dallas. The family moved to Irving before Judy started K-5. She graduated from L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, TX.
Judy spent two years at North Texas State in Denton before transferring to University of Texas, Austin, to major in German language and literature. During her senior year, she worked for a German professor as his library assistant. A desire to visit Germany was granted. In 1971, she was hired by book dealer, Otto Harrasowitz, and Judy settled in Wiesbaden to work. After one year, she returned to the states to be the maid-of-honor at her best friend's wedding.
Judy returned to UT in Austin where she earned a master's degree in Library Science in 1974. The University of Fayetteville offered her a job which she held for five years. But, Judy became homesick for Texas. She missed frequent visits to her parents in Irving. She found a job in the cataloging department of the library at North Texas State which she held from 1980 to retirement in 2011.
She was an active member of the Saint David's Episcopal Church, where she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her brothers Rich and Kenn Johnston (Wife Nanette), 6 nephews and nieces, and many grand nephews and nieces.
She was preceded by her parents Harold and Ethel, and her sister Bette Darnell.
Services will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Saint David's Episcopal Church in Denton, TX beginning at 10:00 AM.
