Julia Douglas Newcomer, 77, of Denton, Texas passed away on September 12, 2017 in Denton. She was born on February 23, 1940 in Richland, MO. To Gaylord W. and Georgia (Laquay) Douglas. Julia married the love of her life Hale Alden Newcomer in 1962.
She attended Drury College in Springfield, Mo. her 1st 2 years, she completed her degree at University of Missouri in in Columbia, Mo graduating in 1961. She worked as an Education Assistant until 1962 when she married Hale Newcomer. After getting married they moved to Kent State University where she earned a Master's degree in Political Science. They moved to Denton in 1968 where she raised her two sons, before getting her PhD in Business Administration. She taught briefly at UNT and moved on to have a delightful career at Texas Womens University. During her time at TWU she was presented with "The Most Considerate Professor" award in the department of Business.
Julia is survived by her husband, Hale Alden, two sons Douglas Hale Newcomer (and wife, Suzanne)and Wilbern Alden Newcomer (and wife Candace) and three grandchildren Douglas, Riker and Zachary.
When she moved to Denton, one of the first things she did was to join First Baptist Church of Denton. She has taught Sunday school, taught VBS, and attended there ever since.
Visitation will be held on Sunday September 17, 2017 from 3-5 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Monday September 18, 2017 at 10 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Denton, Texas. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
