IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julius Johnnie
Rebecek
June 5, 1942 – October 20, 2025
Julius Johnnie Rebecek, known to most as John, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 20, 2025. Born on June 5, 1942, in Rowena Texas to John Herman Rebecek and Annie Rose Gast Rebecek. He was a proud fourth generation Texan from Czechoslovakian immigrants. John was a devoted Catholic and loving husband to Owassa; a dedicated father to Tiffanie, Chris, and Brian; and a proud Oompa to Jordan, Levi, Jacob, Lily, Joshua, Jillian, Lindsey, Julianna, and Briley.
John was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Owassa, his parents John and Annie Rebecek, his brother Robert Rebecek, his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Raymond Gorbach, brother-in-law George Scherlin, and his granddaughter Jordan Dodson.
John grew up in the small west Texas farming town of Rowena, where his family farmed cotton and raised cattle. He graduated in 1960 from the Saint Joseph Catholic School in Rowena. Since he did not want to be a farmer, John proceeded to join the United States Air Force in January of 1961, where he traveled the world as a Crew Chief on the F-100 fighter jet. His deployments included Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, The Philippines, and his final deployment was in Vietnam. John was honorably discharged in December 1964 after proudly serving his country that he loved.
On December 11, 1964, John married the love of his life, Owassa Skeen of Clovis, New Mexico, whom he met while at his final duty station, Cannon Air Force Base, . Soon after, John and Owassa packed up his '57 Chevy and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to enroll in the Spartan School of Aviation. The two of them were very happy in Tulsa, and have often shared wonderful memories of this time together, along with their beagle Bootsie. Upon graduation, John was hired by Delta Airlines as an aircraft mechanic, and they moved to Dallas Texas to begin his career with Delta at Love Field. It was soon followed by the arrival of their first child, Tiffanie. They then moved to the Dallas suburb of Lewisville, where Chris arrived followed by Brian, and they felt their family was complete. John and Owassa shared many wonderful memories of their time in Lewisville and developed a lifelong friendship with neighbors Pat and Mel Cockrell. In 1976 they built their final home in Argyle, Texas on acreage to accommodate their growing children and live the life they had been working towards. This is the home where they raised their children, celebrated life, and welcomed grandchildren. John and Owassa had a vision for their home and life in the country, and they worked towards that dream that was focused on family, till it was accomplished. It is a peaceful, comforting place that the whole family retreats to as much as possible. John
developed the land, adding many trees, shrubs and gardens where the wildlife loved to visit. Owassa created a nurturing home for the family, and together they were very happy.
John retired from Delta Airlines after 35 years as the Maintenance Foreman at DFW Airport and left with many great friendships and memories. Upon retirement he began driving school buses for Denton ISD where he could see his grandkids at special events. He then shifted to Argyle ISD and drove the school bus for the special needs program. John enjoyed these children and loved them very much. He retired from Argyle ISD in 2012. After retiring completely from all his jobs and businesses, he settled into his love of woodworking. He built his dream workshop and created many great projects for the people he loved. John was a craftsman, designing and building furniture of all sorts, along with many toys and even a treehouse for the grandkids that he loved so much. He was also completely free to travel, experience and observe the Texas history that he had a lifelong passion for. He was an expert historian on the "true" Texas history.
He is survived by his children, Tiffanie Dodson (Craig), Christopher Rebecek, (Sally), Brian Rebecek; his sisters, Margaret Scherlin, Agnes Leopold (Jackson),; grandchildren, Levi Thomas (Hope), Jacob Dodson (fiancé Ashley Murray), Lily Rebecek (Brandon Zubko) , Joshua Rebecek (fiancé Jerri Davis), Jillian Dodson, Lindsey Rebecek, Julianna Rebecek and great- granddaughter, Briley Thomas. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he loved so dearly.
