Celebrating the Life of Seth June Mills
Seth June Mills passed away peacefully in Highland Village, TX June 10th, 2020 at the age of 96 due to congestive heart failure.
Much loved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, aunt and friend. Known to the family as Granny. June was born January 2nd 1924 in Pioneer, TX to William Hicks Stamps and Willie Lucille Stamps. She was the oldest of three children and was big sister to her two brothers, David Stamps and Bill Stamps. June is predeceased by her loving parents, two brothers, daughter Carole Ann Castleberry, husband Bill and his mother Winelle Mills, first husband Vestal Hyde and great grandson Jaedon Mills.
June is survived by her loving Son, Bill Mills, Jr. and daughter-in-law Becky of Argyle, TX. Eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Grandmother to: Joey Castleberry and wife Tori, Casey Gallegos and husband Steve, Hampton Mills and wife Katie, Lindsay Mills Steffe and husband Jeff, Matthew Mills & wife Andra, Joshua Mills & partner Callie Poindexter, Jacob Mills and wife Gina, and Chase & Ashley Busby.
Great grandmother to: Kaley Eads, Andi Eads, Campbell Castleberry, Alanah Floyd and husband Richard, Riley Gallegos, Nathaniel Gallegos, Lillian Sussman, Kaitlin Levasseur, Kellan Steffe, Jessica Brunson and husband Rylie, Kylie Mills, Madelyn Mills, Ethan Mills, Gunner Mills, Brooks Busby, and Payton Morris.
Great great grandmother to Rex Owings, Lucas Owings, Ellia White and Logan Brunson.
Additionally June leaves behind to cherish her memory, her nieces, nephews, loved ones and dear friends, as well her Poodle Annie Ann.
June was raised on a farm in Hawley Texas during the great depression era, and told stories of her riding on the running board of the family model T because there was not enough room inside for the entire family. Despite humble beginnings, she had a happy childhood with two loving parents. The nickname given to her by her Daddy was Doodle.
June graduated from Hawley High School in the summer 1941. Shortly thereafter she married Vestal Hyde on Dec 2nd 1941. They moved to Farmville VA Where Vestal was stationed in the Army.
Daughter Carole Ann was born the day after Vestal shipped out During WWII where he died in service in October 1944. After Carole was born June moved back to Hawley where she attended beauty school and also attended Harden Simmons College in Abilene. She also worked at the movie Theatre in Abilene while raising Carole Ann as a single parent. June eventually met and married Billy Edwin Mills Sr. in June of 1945 and they were married 68 years until his passing in 2013.
June worked in Banking and Insurance as well having a career as a Real Estate Agent in Irving for a number of Years.
She lived in Texas most of her life except for a time in Virginia. June and Bill resided in Irving for many years and later moved to Horseshoe Bay in the 80's and 90's and in 2000 moved to Whitney, TX where they lived for 15 years.
In 2015 she came to live in Argyle with Bill and Becky. In 2019, due to her declining health she moved to Rambling Oaks Courtyard in Highland Village where she received excellent care and made friends with many of the staff members. Special thanks to Rambling Oaks Courtyard and Ardent Hospice for caring for our loved one for over a year and a half.
Her most important role in life was that of raising her two children and supporting her husband's endeavors. She also played an active role in her grandchildren's lives and enjoyed being a big part of their lives. She cherished her family first and foremost.
June lived a full and active life and had an adventurous and loving spirit. At a youthful age, June enjoyed water sports and snow skiing, with family and friends.
After Carole and Bill Jr. left home, she and Bill Sr, enjoyed traveling with their friends, entertaining & hosting dinner parties. She enjoyed sewing, playing golf, being outdoors, tending to her flowers and garden, decorating, and shopping for bargains. June was an avid Bridge Player as well and was a part of a Ladies Bridge Group in Whitney. A patriotic lady who was proud of her Country.
June was a member of the White Bluff Chapel for many years prior to her move to Argyle.
In her golden years, June bought an RV in 2014 and took a week long road trip to Florida to visit family and a dear longtime friend. With Bill and Becky at the wheel and Granddaughter Lindsay at the wheel on the return trip from Florida. She had fun getting the RV packed up and ready to hit the road. It was her bucket list trip in her RV.
A few of her favorite things: Holding babies, listening to church hymns, and music from the big band era. Watching golf, old Westerns, and she loved watching the Dallas Cowboys play. June loved chocolate. Any dessert really and Chicken and Dumplings. She enjoyed visiting with friends and catching up on their news, reading her Bible and Jesus Calling Devotional Books, playing with her great grandchildren and all children, and holding her poodle Annie in her lap.
June loved the Lord with all her heart and had a strong faith. She treasured all of her family and always looked forward to seeing everyone. It was Granny's intent that every child have a gift to open at the Christmas gatherings and she loved to wear Christmas Sweaters during the holidays.
Her Favorite Bible Verse- Proverbs 3: verse 5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight"
Junes Legacy is the Love she had for her immediate and extended family and friends. You always knew that you would be greeted with a smile and a hug each time you saw her. Family ties were very important to June.
Memorials may be made to the Fisher House Foundation. A Non Profit Organization that builds comfort homes where Military families and Veterans families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital.
