IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen Iris
Lewis
January 28, 1939 – June 22, 2024
Karen Iris Reynolds Lewis passed away on June 22, 2024
from Alzheimer's after a brave fight.
She is survived by her
husband Raymond. They were married 65 years. She is also
survived by her children Valaree, Steven and Kristi, their spouses,
and her five grandchildren, Erin, Amanda, Emma Grace, Zachary
and Anderson, as well as her sister, Sharon and Sharon's children,
Brad and Amy. Her brother-in-law, Bill Lewis will lead the memorial service.
Karen was born and raised in Durant, Oklahoma by loving
parents Ira and Opal. She and Raymond found each other as
sophomores in high school and began a lifelong love affair which
included college, travel, raising children and celebrating God's
love together every single day. She taught her children to see
beauty in the ordinary, to take each day as a gift.
Karen was a brilliant and gifted pianist, having trained from
early childhood through her Master's degree at the University of
Oklahoma. Her career as a performer culminated in a stunning
performance in the 1960's at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She
was the featured pianist with the Oklahoma City Symphony and
continued to share her gift during her time as a music professor at
Texas Woman's University. For fourteen years she was the pianist
for First Baptist Church Denton where she performed countless
solo pieces and accompanied many choirs and soloists over the years.
Her greatest love was her family. She was a fierce defender of
her children and an advocate for them at all times. Nothing made
her happier than having all her "chickens" around.
Later in life she travelled with her husband, cheering on her
grandchildren on courts, fields and auditoriums throughout North
Texas. She never cared about the final score or the quality of the event. She was their biggest fan.
She was a devout Christian who always gave credit to God for
all the gifts life brought her. She was blessed and all who knew her remain blessed.
Her memorial service will be held on June 27, 2024, at 1 p.m.
at DeBerry Funeral Home, 2025 W. University Drive, Denton, TX 76201.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the
Alzheimer's Association to further the research toward a cure.
