Kathleen Hudson Barns passed away on March 15, 2024 at her home in Denton after a courageous year-long fight with cancer. Kathy was born in Seattle, Washington on April 11, 1953 to Myers and Frances Zamaria Hudson. After her father's Naval obligations were complete, the family moved to her father's home state of Texas, where Kathy lived the rest of her life.

After graduating from Bishop High School, Kathy entered North Texas State University (now UNT) and it was there that she met her future husband, Joseph E. "Joe" Barns Jr. Joe and Kathy married in 1974 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple lived in Galveston, DeSoto, Dallas, and Denison before returning to Joe's hometown of Denton 6 years ago. Kathy was proud of her accomplishment of finishing her college degree, obtaining a B.A. from UNT in Integrative Studies (cum laude) at the age of 68.

Kathy was the mother of two wonderful girls, Jennifer Barns of Denton and Deborah Barns Hermon (Dave) of Carrollton. She also leaves behind her husband Joe, three grandchildren (Andrew, Kevin and Carrie), her dear sister Debbie Hudson Reed (Buddy) of Egypt, Texas, her aunt Quida Bergstrom of El Campo, Texas, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many dear friends.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 23 at The Village Church – Denton at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a private graveside service for family at the Old Alton Cemetery in Denton. Kathy had a lifelong love of books and of literacy for children. So, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Kathy's memory if desired to Tomas Rivera Elementary library at 701 Newton St., Denton, 76205.
