Kelly Lee Gage passed away in Denton , Texas on Sunday, December 19, 2021. He was born in Cortland, NY to Keith Gage and Jeannie Powers on December 6, 1969. Kelly was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and later served his community as a Police Officer. He enjoyed helping people but was happiest when he was with his family. He is preceded in death by his father and twin brother.

A graveside service will be held at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021.

Kelly is survived by his wife Jody, their son Hayden, step-daughter Megan and his mother Jeannie.

Kelly Gage's life was one of service and compassion for others.  He always wanted to comfort, encourage, and care for those he came into contact with, whether he knew them or not. He loved being part of a team to accomplish goals.  His family and friends meant the world to him.

After completing high school in 1988, he entered the army, serving as an Army Ranger for more than 11 years.  Deployed between 1991-1995, he completed four combat-related tours of duty and worked his way up to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Kelly was Honorably Discharged after seven years of active service and four years of reserve duty.

As a Deputy Sheriff and Jailer, he served the citizens of Denton County and Smith County for more than a decade. Kelly progressed to the rank of Corporal and obtained his Advanced Jailer Proficiency.

He showed throughout his life that he was committed to improving himself and he actively pursued opportunities to learn and to pass on what he learned.  From general educational opportunities to specialist training for his work as a Peace Officer, he strove to equip himself to do his job.

Since joining the Texas Woman's University Police Department in the summer of 2020, he was a dedicated officer with a deep concern for the wellbeing of those around him.  He was committed to caring for those he was sworn to protect and serve.  His calm demeanor, quiet sense of humor, and kindness touched his colleagues and everyone who came into contact with him.

Kelly had many friends but his best friend was his son, Hayden. Kelly will be missed every day by his loving wife and son, and all who knew him.
