Obituary

Kenneth Howard Wurzbach passed away on January 3, 2017 in Denton, Texas. He was born on November 11, 1928 in Harlingen, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie Edwin Wurzbach and mother, Leola Wurzbach and his infant son, Kenneth Howard Wursbach, Jr. Ken was an only child.


Ken moved to San Antonio, Texas when he was 5 years old. He attended public schools and graduated from Burbank High School. He attended Sul Ross College on a music scholarship. While working during the summer he received his draft notice. Ken enlisted in the Air Force in August of 1950. He was sent to Perrin AFB in Texas.


He is survived by the former Kathryn Loveless of Denison, Texas. They have two daughters, Stephanie Johnson and husband George L. Johnson III (Jay), Cynthia Ray and husband Richard, four grandchildren, George L. Johnson IV (B.J.) and wife Brittany, Lindsey King and husband Jon, Jennifer King and husband Bryan, Courtney Robinson and husband Scott, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, Emma and Zoe.


Kenneth lived over fifty years in San Antonio. He worked for American Standard Plumbing Supply Company and won many awards for his work. Ken also played in a small band on the weekends, most people will remember the Bitz Matteny Group, the band broke up in 1970.  Ken was choir director at Hope Lutheran Church and also director of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in San Antonio, Texas. Ken loved to play golf and was on several bowling teams and was on the last team with Peter and Marian Hennessy a team for GPM Life Insurance Company.


Ken retired from American Standard at the age of 57 and worked various other jobs until he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.


Ken's favorite charity was the Salvation Army or the American Red Cross. The family would like to thank the management and staff of Denton Rehabilitation and nursing home for the loving care they gave Kenneth while he was there. The family would also like to thank Pastor Russ for his many trips to see Ken and keep him in his prayers.


A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Denton, Texas with the Pastor Russell Tieken officiating. A private service will be held at the D/FW National Cemetery with military honors.
