Obituary

Kenneth Ray Martin, affectionately known as "Rooster," passed away on March 27, 2026, in Terrell, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on March 20, 1939, in Valley View, Texas, Kenneth led a life marked by dedication, service, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Kenneth’s lifelong commitment to public service was exemplified by his distinguished 35-year career as a Dallas Fireman, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant. His years in the fire service were characterized by courage, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to protecting those around him. Prior to his fire service, Kenneth honorably served in the Air Force, demonstrating a lifelong dedication to his country and its safety.

A proud native of Valley View, Kenneth pursued his education at Valley View High School before attending Tarleton State University, laying the foundation for a life marked by hard work and resilience.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Virgil and Velma Martin; his son Kevin; his grandson Brooks Edward; and siblings V.W. Jr., Evelyn, Weldon, and Royce. Kenneth is survived by his devoted daughter Sherrie Martin; sons Randy (and wife Tracey), Rick (and wife Alicia), Step-son Robert (and wife Jean). He was a cherished grandfather to Hannah Jo, Elle Rae, Tyler, Jensen, Katelyn, Caden, Kinley, Riley, and McKenna. His great-granddaughters Emme Rae, Eve James, Madden Banks, and Indy Kate brought him immense joy. Kenneth is also survived by his sister Reva, and many nieces and nephews who alongside his children and grandchildren, carry forward his legacy of love and strength.

A funeral service to honor Kenneth’s life will take place on April 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Valley View, located at 503 North Lee Street, Valley View, Texas, 76272. Family, friends, and community members are invited to join in remembering a man whose courage and kindness touched so many lives. The service will be followed by a graveside service at Valley View Cemetery.

Kenneth Ray Martin’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. His unwavering spirit of service and devotion serves as an enduring example to all.
