Kenneth Lindsey Walling
November 21, 1957 – September 27, 2026
Kenneth Lindsey Walling was born on November 21, 1957 in Denton, Texas, to Doyle and Louise Walling. A lifelong Texan, Ken lived a full and purposeful life marked by high standards, precision, and an appreciation for both the simplicity of country living and the possibilities of modern technology.
Ken graduated from Denton High School in 1976, where he excelled in baseball and mathematics and developed a deep interest in global history. He was also a leader in the Future Farmers of America, serving as president and becoming highly skilled in parliamentary procedure—an early reflection of the discipline, accuracy, and high expectations that would characterize his life.
After graduating from DeVry Institute of Technology, Ken began a distinguished career in telecommunications. He became a member of the first fiber-optic team to connect Texas and California, helping establish one of the earliest fiber-optic connections between the two states. His career took him across the United States, working in communications with companies including General Telephone, Ericsson, and Verizon.
While Ken took great pride in his work and technical knowledge, some of his greatest joys came later in life through his family. He became a devoted uncle and great-uncle, rarely missing an opportunity to attend a hockey game, coach a baseball team, or cheer from the sidelines at volleyball activities. His niece Amanda Shaw Fletcher, great-niece Zoie Fletcher, and great-nephews Garrett Jackson and William Jackson brought a special kind of joy and purpose to his life.
In 2023, Ken moved to the Big Mineral area of Lake Texoma, where he found a place that suited his love of country living. He spent his days building and working on his cabin near the lake and enjoying sunsets visible across the hayfield and through the line of oak and elm trees. His canine companions were faithful members of his household: an Australian Shepherd; Buddy Demo; and Panda Bear, an abandoned dog who found him and Buddy, a home and became deeply loved.
Ken passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the care of his elder sister, Ina Kay Briggs, and younger brother, Randy Kerr Walling, along with the love and support of his remaining family.
Ken is also survived by his niece, Amanda Fletcher, and her husband, Jeremy; great-niece Zoie Fletcher; and great-nephews William Jackson and Garret Jackson along with his wife, Angelli Avila-Jackson.
Ken was a loving son, brother, uncle, and great-uncle. He lived with determination, curiosity, loyalty, and an unwavering commitment to doing things well. His life touched many people, and his memory will remain in the family he loved, the work he helped build, the places he called home, and the many lives he encouraged along the way.
A private immediate family-only remembrance of Ken’s life will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas, at gravesite of his parents, Doyle and Louise Walling.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers or gifts, those wishing to honor Ken’s memory may consider making a contribution to the American Cancer Society in support of those affected by cancer or VNA Ann’s Haven Hospice of Denton TX, who took exceptional care of him.
A life well lived. A life well fought. A life deeply loved.
