IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin Cecil
Cowan
September 17, 1965 – March 16, 2017
Kevin Cecil Cowan, 51, of Corinth passed away on March 16, 2017, after a 2+ year hard fought battle with (A.M.L.) Leukemia. He died peacefully in his sleep with his wife & best friend by his side. Praising God he is cancer free & suffers no more! He is with Jesus.
Kevin was born in Dallas, on Sept. 17, 1965, & grew up in Mesquite. As a child he suffered much heartache & struggle, the biggest being the death of his father at age 13. He moved around some but finished his last 2 years of high school in Allen, TX in 1984. He excelled at basketball, baseball and actually attended ETBU for 2 yrs on a baseball scholarship. Then he lived and worked in Denton 1986-1994. It was later as an adult and married that he completed both his bachelor's degree and master's degrees in Business accomplishments he was very determined to do and proud of .
He met & married Shelley Davenport Cowan, of Dallas, in 1995. The couple moved to Austin TX and soon started their family. They had two children, Kate (1999) and Caleb (2005).
The family moved to Denton in 2005 for job change for Kevin and for him it was like "coming home", as this was where his father had grown up, he had lived a long time and his best buddies still lived. Once in Denton, Kevin began working for Peterbilt and stayed in some aspect of the trucking industry over these past 11 years, most recently working for Rush Enterprises, Peterbilt, of Dallas, as a regional sales manager.
These past 12 years Kevin and his family have been members of Denton Bible Church, where for the majority of the time he served as a school-age Sunday school teacher.
Kevin was a "sports guy" played sports, avid watcher in person and TV, he coached some of his children's teams. His favorite all time thing to do was to watch and cheer for his kids and their friends in sports! What an encourager & cheerleader he was.
Kevin's strong faith in Jesus as his savior was central to everything in his life. He wanted to share that hope & his faith with everyone and anyone, he was never short on words. He loved to visit with people, was a genuine friend and loved to serve others!
When he got diagnosed, he never exhibited bitterness or doubted what God was doing. He just trusted that God had purposed this in his life for a reason and would use it for God's glory. He did not fear, he trusted God! Kevin fought to live each day as fully as he could.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Shelley Cowan, children, Kate and Caleb Cowan, of Denton, his Aunt Marj Frederiksen of Dallas, his niece Jill Morales and countless extended family & friends who loved Kevin and his family.
There is a Celebration of Kevin's life memorial service, at Denton Bible Church, in the main sanctuary on April 8, 2017, at 10 A.M.
