IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kirsten Victoria
Woodard
June 18, 1962 – September 29, 2021
Kirsten Victoria Woodard passed away at the age of 59 in Justin, Texas on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. She was born in Henrietta, Texas to Percy Perry Woodard, Jr., and Virginia Bonham Woodard on June 18, 1962. Kirsten was blessed to live most of her life with her parents, who were the strongest advocates throughout the years for her quality of life and independence. From ensuring that Kirsten received groundbreaking heart surgery at 21 months from Dr. Denton Cooley in Houston; to legal action to ensure that Kirsten would not be denied her inalienable rights; to teaching Kirsten valuable life skills like laundry; and to providing every learning opportunity that challenged her mind and expanded her horizons.
Kirsten primarily attended schools in Plano, Texas, and graduated from high school in Fairfax County, Virginia. Kirsten had a love of learning, and she continued her education at North Central Texas College in Corinth, Texas. She was also active with Denton MHMR for many years, and enthusiastically participated in many activities – from social events to attending Dayhab. She loved the time she was able to spend with so many of her friends.
For almost the last decade, Kirsten lived with her care provider Aura Porter and her family – who she absolutely loved and adored! While living with the Porter's, Kirsten enjoyed outings with their extended family, and other MHMR clients, joking around with Aura, planning to "baby sit" the kids, and everything else involved in their active family life.
Kirsten had an amazing love of everyday life and was one of those special people who never met a stranger. She greeted everyone with a huge smile and "Hello". Her family was important to her in many ways, she enjoyed spending time with them and hearing their stories. Kirsten loved going to her sister Kristina's house to visit on weekends and the holidays. She looked forward to talking to her brother-in- law Tim, and helping Kristina cook holiday meals. Kirsten loved to eat good food! Besides eating holiday meals, she loved Mexican (El Matador), Italian (Olive Garden), Seafood (Red Lobster), Greek (Mom's Salad) and "everything Aura made". She also had a lifetime love of singing – especially Elvis, Christmas Songs and the anthems of the Marine, Army and Navy. Kirsten could always be counted on during a road trip sing-a-long to know the words and carry the tune. Kirsten grew up with, and loved having (and petting) dogs. She liked some cats, but not fish or other reptiles – like crocodiles.
Kirsten is survived by her mother, Virginia; her sister Kristina Scally, her husband Tim and their two children Lauren and Luke; her brother Paul, his wife Beth Anne and their daughters Bailey and Riley; her cousin Caroline Anne Gormley and her husband Rick; her care provider Aura Porter and family; and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Percy, her paternal grandparents Percy Woodard, Sr. and Corrine Woodard Greene, her maternal grandparents COL Roscoe and Caroline Bonham and her aunt Ruth Bolce.
