Mcmurry Turner
September 1, 1945 – February 6, 2017
Lana Jean McMurry Turner, 71, of Denton, passed away on February 6, 2017. She was born September 1, 1945, in Sherman, Texas, to Arvel and Sarah McMurry. After graduating high school in Leonard, Texas, she attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and taught in Leonard, Texas. She moved to Garland, Texas, where she also taught elementary school. It was in Garland where she met her husband Ronnie Turner. They married in Trenton, Texas, on August 23, 1969, and remained married for over 47 years until her death.
Lana also taught school in Grand Prairie, Texas and Denton, Texas. After her teaching career, she worked for over 15 years at Texas Women's University in the Accounting Department, from where she retired in 2010. Lana loved the Lord and was a member of Singing Oaks Church of Christ where she taught babies and elementary age children for many years and served in the food pantry and clothing room. Lana was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking and water aerobics classes. She loved music and singing. She was a dear friend to many. We will miss her greatly, but know she has found rest with our Lord.
Lana is survived by her husband Ronnie Turner of Denton; daughter, Stephanie Casto of Fort Worth and husband Ed; daughter Jennifer Grund of Argyle; granddaughter Ava Casto; grandson Jobe Grund; sister Martha Davy of Garland and husband David; sister Carole Compton of Lubbock and husband Tony; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arvel and Sarah McMurry.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the caregivers at Willow Bend and the Accolade hospice staff for their tireless and loving care of Lana.
Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Singing Oaks Church of Christ. The Funeral service will follow thereafter at 11:00 A.M., burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, Texas.
