Obituary

My mother, Lana Ruth Smalley Miles joined her parents Olena Crawford Smalley & Richard Gordon Smalley of Clyde Tx; her sister Sandra Smalley Terrell of Buffalo Gap Tx; her beloved Standard Dauchund Boomer and my Dox Red in heaven on Feb 8th, 2021 while in a hospital in Denton, Texas. Prior to being in the hospital Mom had lived at a Tarrant county area skilled nursing since 2015-2016 and was on Hospice since Aug 2020 until Jan 26, 2021.

Mom was very loved and had a great sense of Style and humor.

Mom was born in the city of Kermit in Winkler County on December 26th,1940 in the afternoon at Robinson McClure Clinic Hospital in Kermit. Mom was raised Church of Christ.

Moms dad was a field gauger in the oilfield for the Texas-New Mexico Pipe Lines Company at the time. He worked for them 25 years out of Houston.

Moms paternal grandfather had also been an oilfield employee as a diesel engineer for the Texas-New Mexico Pipeline and was also a Mason.

My grandmother, Granny as she was called by us grandkids, worked from home when Mom was born.

While growing up and living in Abilene Mom grad high school from AHC and attended ACU where she met our dad Robert Samuel Miles while he was also attending ACU.

They married May 28th,1961 in her parents home by Hillcrest Church of Christ Minister Carl Spain. Dad graduated the day after they were married.

Soon after Mom and Dad traveled by a Rock Island Line train June 5th to move to Fort Riley Kansas where Dad was stationed to complete his last 6 mos duty in the Army. They went to live in Fort Polk Louisiana after that.

Sometime later in the 70's my mother's parents moved to Canada and my grandfather worked for 12 years and 5 months for the Bow River Pipeline in Brooks, Alberta as a Chief pipeline inspector. He officially retired on 9-16-1976.

My grandparents left Brooks in 1978 or 1980 and moved to Clyde and lived out their life there.

My parents moved back in Abilene after being stationed at Fort Polk and eventually made their way to Lubbock in 1970-1971 following the sales contracts our dad accepted.

He traveled a lot while working for Amway, Robert Marshall and Associates and others.

After moving to Lubbock with Dad Mom worked for a company called Barter Systems of Texas, Dillards. Dunlaps and Meyers Jewelers before retiring from retail sales herself in the late 90's.

Mom and Dad divorced in 1989. Dad passed away in 2017 in Arlington.

I moved Mom to DFW in early 2009.

Mom is survived by:

Bobby Miles 58 of Arlington; Michael Miles 54 of Ft. Worth and me Marcy Taylor 48 of Ft. Worth.

Moms second son Mike was born blind due to Marfans Syndrome and she was a lover of all animals and her beloved dogs in her life were rescues.

Memorials and donations may be made to The National Marfans Syndrome Association or to any favored animal shelter or to any species of animal rescue group.
