Obituary

Larry J. Whitlock, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend passed away on May 17, 2024, at his home in Denton TX, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 82 years old. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final days and the last voice he heard was that of the love of his life, Diana, his wife of 61 years.

Larry, the youngest of nine siblings, was born in Clarksville, TN to Bob and Bess Whitlock. He was raised in Vincennes, Indiana where he spent his first 18 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1959 and served his country admirably for 26 years. He retired from the Air Force in 1986 and began his next career with FEMA, retiring for the second time in 2006.

Larry married Diana (nee Anderson) in Vincennes, Indiana on Nov. 24, 1962. The Air Force afforded them the ability to travel around the world, living in England and Italy for long periods of time. Their love for travel was borne from those experiences and extended to vacations in Mexico, many cruises of the Caribbean, and trips to Paris, England, and Italy. They moved to Denton in 1987.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Bess Whitlock, brothers Bill Whitlock and George Whitlock, sisters Helen Howe, Jane Jansen, and Sue Gillingham; brothers-in-law Tinks Howe, Mike Anderson, Ray Keller, Herb Elliott, and Ron Garland, sisters-in-law Ruth Whitlock, Mary Jane Anderson, Pat Keller, and Sally Hadley.

He is survived by his wife, Diana, his children Lorri (Robert) Orwig, LeAnne (Brad) Tate, Lesli (Adam) Curtis, and Andy (Kim) Whitlock; grandchildren Ally Orwig, Cory Starkey, Erin Whitlock, Daniel Cheney, Ryan Tate, Alex Tate, Taylor Dempsey, Rachel Sullivan, Sarah Dempsey, Alyssa Sheppard, Aiden Whitlock, and Lily Whitlock; their spouses, and 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lynda Garland and Judy Elliott, brothers-in-law Roger Gillingham, Martin Anderson, David Anderson, Dan Anderson, Terry Brooking, sisters-in-law Mary Jo Baldwin, MJ Anderson, Cathy Brooking, and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Larry was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and long-time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
