LaRue Faye McAmis Williams
Our Mom, Granny, Cousin, and Friend LaRue Faye McAmis Williams went home to be with Jesus on November 27, 2020. Born on November 10, 1936, LaRue was the only child of Rupert and Mable Ruth McAmis. She grew up in Amarillo, Texas, attended San Jacinto Methodist Church and graduated from Amarillo High School. She attended Baylor University and the University of Texas at Austin. Her dad managed the Rex Theater in Amarillo which is where she met her husband of 58 years, Joe N. Williams.
Joe's business took them to Houston, Beaumont, Plano and for the last 36 years she was a resident of Justin, Texas. LaRue devoted her life to raising her four girls whom she cherished and put above all else in her life. She raised them in the faith and to be strong and independent women. As Granny to her 15 grandchildren she shared her love for sewing, family history, reading, letter writing and shopping!
A Justin resident since 1984, LaRue was an active member of Justin United Methodist Church serving faithfully in many ways. She was a founding member of the church handbell choir and made two trips with the group. She was active in the Joy Circle, United Methodist Women, church choir, and helped organize and serve many a meal for events and members. LaRue was a member and past president of the Justin chapter of the 20 th Century Club and a member of the Denton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
LaRue was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert and Mable Ruth McAmis; her daughter, Ami Jo Redfern; and her husband, Joe N. Williams. She is survived by 3 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, and 15 grandchildren: Connye Roberson, son-in-law Silas, Christina; Terri Sakakeeny and son-in-law Chip, Jordan and wife Emily, Ali, Rachel, Sarah and George; son-in-law Frank Redfern, Maegan, Frankie, April, and Jennifer; Staci Gray and son-in-law Marty, Jonathan and wife Hannah, Rebekah, Grace, Micah and Hope.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of Justin United Methodist Church who surrounded both our parents with love throughout the years and to her caregivers, Rose Meeks and Paula Dutton, and dear friends who so lovingly made her last year so comfortable.
A funeral service will be held at Justin United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 2 nd at 10:00am. In an abundance of caution, there will be limited, assigned seating in the sanctuary, live-stream on campus, and the service will be broadcast via Facebook Live. She and Joe will be buried next to her parents at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas. In lieu of flowers, LaRue has asked that remembrances be directed to the Justin United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
