Esther Laurayne Duvall Hess, 100, passed away on February 7, 2022 in Denton, Texas. She was born on December 27, 1921 in Topeka Kansas to Jay Dewey and Pearl Octavia Wolfe Duvall.
Laurayne grew up in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka High School in Topeka Kansas. Laurayne married Robert "Bob" Marshall Hess in 1942 in Topeka, Kansas. They were happily married for 71 years. In 1959, she moved to Amarillo, Texas with her husband and children, but moved back to Topeka in 1965. They returned to Amarillo in 1969 and remained there until Bob's death in 2013.
Most of all, she enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, gardening, quilting, genealogy, and playing cards, bingo and slot machines. She worked as Ada Glenn's secretary at Ada Realtors (Prudential Realtors), until retiring in 1985.
Esther Laurayne Hess was preceded in death by her parents, Jay Dewey and Pearl Octavia Duvall, husband Robert Marshall Hess, sisters, Thelma Maurice and brother- in- law, Albert Edward Carpenter, Parthene Florence and brother- in- laws, Jack A. Sheets and Norris Holstrom.
Those who will cherish her memory are her son, Steven Robert Hess and wife Carole Ann Cadille Hess, of Kingsland, Texas and daughter, Marsha Kaye Hess Swan and husband, the late James Gerald Swan, of Sanger, Texas; grandchildren, James Robert Swan and wife Brandan Ann Perkins Swan, Trude Kaye Swan Henderson and husband Lester Brent Henderson, Eric Michael Hess and wife Stacey Ann Nocktonick Hess, Jennifer Ann Hess Halbrendt, Marc Fredrick Hess, Sr. and wife, Jennifer Kay Lindsay Hess; great-grandchildren Nicole Kaye Sessions Hopkins and husband Trenton Jeffery Hopkins, Natalie Anne Swan, Kate Ashlyn Swan, Loren Michelle Sessions, Sheldon Adam Hess, Savana Whitney Hess, Allison Paige Halbrandt, Eli Joseph Halbrandt, Evan James Halbrandt, Marc Fredrick Hess, Jr. and Heidi June Hess; great-great granddaughter Salem Presley Hopkins, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 5PM to 7PM. Funeral services are scheduled for 2PM, Wednesday also at DeBerry's. The family will have a private burial at Memorial Park Mausoleum in Amarillo, Texas.
