Lawanda Boenker, 90, of Krum, TX passed away February 17, 2013. She was the daughter of the late B.E. and Cora Ratliff, born July 11, 1922 near Lewisville, TX. She married Oscar Boenker August 3, 1940. Lawanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter (1954), brother, James Ratliff, and sister, Veeta Lee.

She is survived by her children: Freddy Boenker of Krum, Peggy Cofer of Abilene, and Jane Schlute of Midland, Eight grandchildren: Brent Cofer, Mark Cofer, Jennifer France, Greg Boenker, Brian Boenker, Robert Boenker, Cody Schlute, and Casey Everitt. Also, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Lewisville High School as valedictorian in 1939. She worked at Russell Newman for 29 years. She was known as an expert seamstress and was very active in her church, the Krum United Methodist Church, for many years. She also served on the Krum library board.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. for visitation. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Plainview Cemetery west of Krum.
