Lawrence Ronald "Ronnie" Land, 77, of Denton went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 30, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family and many friends. He was born on July 27, 1940 and was the only child of Lawrence & Tressie Angel Land. Ronnie married the love of his life, Lynell Kelly, in Denton on September 3, 1959.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, daughters, Lisa Wisnie and husband Peter, Julie Coward and husband Greg and four grandchildren, Madison and husband Tyler Fox, Holden and Pierce Wisnie, and Kennedy Coward.
Ronnie was preceded in death by son, Justin, parents and beloved grandmother, Lela Angel.
Ronnie was a founding member of Gateway Baptist Church where he faithfully attended every Sunday until he was no longer able to attend.
Ronnie graduated from Denton High School in 1958. He was a member of the 49th Armored Division of the US Army. A savvy and smart business man, he owned & operated Metroplex Truck & Equipment in Justin, Texas until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of the Early Automobile Club of Denton and enjoyed owning classic cars and trucks. His 1957 Chevy Cameo Pickup was displayed at the Branson, Mo. Car Museum. He owned several Cushman Motor Scooters and enjoyed attending rallies. Perhaps most of all, Ronnie loved spending time with those dear to him. He will be remembered by many for his sharp wit and his love for his family and friends.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2013. After his last diagnosis in 2016, he chose to have no treatments and remain comfortable at home. He spent his last two years often saying, "I am grateful to the Lord that He is allowing me to say goodbye to my family and friends. Not everyone gets that chance." God has far exceeded our expectations, and we are thankful for the time we were given with our beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Family will receive friends on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Gateway Baptist Church in Denton, and internment will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery.
Family would like to give a special thank you to Herbert Freeman and Dr. Carlos Cruz for their outstanding care and attention they provided him.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Gateway Baptist Church or to the Cooper Creek Cemetery Association.
