Obituary

Lee H. Hughes, Jr., passed away August 26, 2013 in Denton, TX. Born October 20, 1925 in Lancaster, TX, he was the last surviving child of Lee H. Hughes and Sallie Mae Bell Hughes of Lancaster. He enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines at age 17 in 1942, serving for the balance of WWII. He was in port in Manila, Philippines when news of the Japanese surrender was received. Discharged from the Merchant Martine in 1947, he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Alaska.

Mr. Hughes became a certified pressure vessel inspector and had a long career with Employers Casualty Insurance Company inspecting pressure vessels fabricated for pipelines, refineries, chemical plants and nuclear power plants. He lived in Lake Dallas for over 40 years and then spent the last years of his life at Sterling House on the Parkway in Denton.

He is survived by his nephews, Phillip R. Hughes and Stephen L. Hughes of Dallas, TX and Robert E. Denham of Pasadena, CA. He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce Fostine Turney Hughes, his brothers, Ralph and Herbert H. Hughes and his sisters, Zonita ("Rae") Hughes Redmon and Anna Marie Hughes Denham.

A memorial service will be Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sterling House on the Parkway. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.
