Obituary

Leonard Ray Rehlen, our devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014. Leonard was born to Fred Otto Rehlen and Audrey Sallstrom on May 15, 1935 in Watonga, Oklahoma. Poppy, as he was known, was devoted to his wife Rhoda Mae Rehlen of Shady Shores, TX. He was a proud father of Jeffery Rehlen and spouse Vicki of Edwardsville, IL and Cynthia Aughinbaugh and spouse Steve of Shady Shores, TX. He was also proud of his grand and great grandchildren Jim, Jennifer, Colin, Cami, Jessica, Justin, Ashton, Ryean, and Miles.

Leonard grew up in western Oklahoma and began his adult life working the oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas. He soon decided that he would leave the dust of Oklahoma and volunteered for the army being stationed in Melvin Price Supply Depot in Granite City, IL. While stationed there he met a young lady who later became his lifelong companion that he loved and adored with all his being. Leonard and Rhoda moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1963 and raised a family near the aviation industry that became his career and passion. He was a scout leader, baseball and basketball coach. Always the coach, he relished attending his grand children's sporting or academic events always providing support, encouragement and enthusiasm.

Upon retirement, he supported many organizations including Tulsa Air and Space museum, Tulsa Zoo volunteers, Tulsa International Airport information guides and various Tulsa area health services. Later Leonard and Rhoda moved to live with Cynthia and Steve Aughinbaugh in a residential airpark in Shady Shores, TX and volunteered in a number of activities around the airpark, church and community. Family, travel and aviation were all high on Leonard's list of things to do.

He was active with First United Methodist of Denton assisting others in many activities. Nanny and Poppy were always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needed it. He greatly enjoyed their annual anniversary trip to Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV where he and Rhoda always seemed to be young and full of energy no matter how late the hour. They traveled the US as well as to Switzerland, Mexico and an Alaskan cruise.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
