Letha Jean Jensen's Obituary

Letha Jean Jensen of Hickory Creek, Texas, beloved wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother left her earthly life in the early morning of September 21, 2018 to go reside in Heaven with Heavenly Father and loved ones that had gone before her. She was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Letha was born in St Joseph, Missouri on September 20, 1951. She loved her hometown and was deeply proud of being raised in the "south end". Letha was beloved by all that knew her and had a special charm for putting others at ease. Letha's easy going manner and overall acceptance of others meant that in 67 years she never met another person that was not worthy of a smile and a quick hello. Letha judged no one and was at ease talking to those that lacked for nothing or those that were destitute. Her smile could put even the angriest person at ease and her hug was the salve that many looked for in their most desperate times.  A devoted lover and protector of all those in the Animal Kingdom, Letha spent a life time giving sanctuary to, nursing back to life, and loving both household pet and stray alike.  Her ability to connect with and understand those residing in nature was uncanny and was considered a gift that few others possessed. Most that knew her were amazed at her ability to put even the most aggressive animals at ease. Letha was also a proud member of the Evening Optimist Club in St. Joseph, Missouri and actively participated in the activities and fundraisers to help the disadvantaged youth in the St. Joseph community.

Struggling with significant health issues most of her adult life, Letha focused her time, energy and devotion on her beloved husband Jerry, her Children, and Grandchildren.  Letha had a passion for TV and never met an animal show or crime show that she would not watch. Letha was also passionate about her hometown sports teams, and seldom was there a minute when she did not wear or have in her hands something with Kansas City Royals written all over it. When the Royals won their last World Series title in 2015, Letha was incredibly proud and happy. In the summertime, she and Jerry would spend countless nights watching Royals baseball.  Letha was always most comfortable watching from the coziness of her home but nothing brought more excitement to her than the occasional trips to watch her favorite team in person.

To know Letha was an adventure in itself. Her high intellect and natural inquisitive nature meant for some very interesting meetings that left those who had engaged her in conversation walking away in amazement. Letha knew a little bit about everything it seemed and a lot about many things. In whatever Letha was doing, passion was always on display.  Letha was especially passionate about her Grandchildren and in the end, when her body was failing and hope seemed to fade, Letha refused to leave her earthly home until she had heard one last " I love you Grandma" from those that she adored the most. Although flawed like every other individual there was one thing that set Letha apart, if she loved you, and there were many that were lucky enough to feel her love, she loved you powerfully and without reservation. When Letha said she loved you they were not words uttered out of convenience or in jest, but it was a deep emotional attachment disguised by language.  There was a special light that flowed from Letha that illuminated those in her life.

Letha is survived by her husband Jerry, a daughter, Nicole Duckwall (Lew) of Lake Dallas Texas, a son Dustin Jensen (Jennifer) of Hickory Creek, Texas, 9 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Two Sisters, Janice Klemann of Kuna, Idaho and Jerrie Moore (Gary) of Fort Pierce, Florida. A Brother in Law Don Jensen (Diane) of American Fork, Utah and three Sisters in Law.  Joanne Wayman (Bruce) Sandy, Utah. Nancy Fullmer (Rick) of West Valley City, Utah and Connie Brotherson of Bluffdale, Utah.  Letha is also survived by numerous Nephews, Nieces and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 902 Chinn Chapel Road, Highland Village, Texas 75077 on Wednesday, Sept 26, 2018. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. with her Celebration of Life beginning at 11:00 a.m.

For each individual that knew and loved Letha, there will be one memory, one moment in time with her that will make us smile. She has left our presence, but remains in our hearts and minds forever.
