January 27, 1923 – September 4, 2020
On September 4, 2020, Lillian Rose (Desjardins) Soucy, 97, passed away peacefully at home in Denton, Texas. She joins her loving and beloved husband Nelson, who died in 2008 after 61 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Linette Soucy-Mercado and her grandchildren, Hector Mercado and Lisa Mercado of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Rachel Desjardins of East Freetown, MA, Jeannette Soucy of Acushnet, MA, and Pauline Benoit of Fairhaven, MA along with many nephews and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her husband's parents, Henry Soucy and Godelive Lamontagne Soucy, her brothers Joseph, Norman and Paul Desjardins, her brothers-in-law Henry Soucy, Paul Soucy, Laurent Roy, Norman Benoit, and Matthew Wayner, her sister Therese Wayner, and her sisters-in-law Marilyn Desjardins, Lillian Desjardins, Anita Roy, and Doris Soucy.
Lillian was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on January 27, 1923 to Ernest Desjardins and Laura Morin Desjardins. She attended New Bedford schools and spent her adult life in Mass., Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rio, and Texas. She made every place she lived a cozy, loving home for her family. Lillian was a lifelong and devout Roman Catholic. She was an active behind-the-scenes volunteer who worked selflessly to help other to shine. She was an ever-kind and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend and memories of her are shared with a smile.
We would like to thank all the dedicated individuals at Hospice Plus, especially her nurse, Paula, social worker Monica, spiritual counselor Rev. Matthew, and Dr. Ramin Roufeh. We especially thank Lorie Ibarra, her devoted caregiver and friend for three years in Tavares, Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas on Wednesday, November 18th at 12:30. She will be buried beside her husband in the Municipal Cemetery in Tavares, Florida.
