IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lois Jonell
Hawk
April 26, 1926 – March 22, 2022
Lois JONELL Hawk left this world after almost 96 years from her home in Fate, Texas on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 to receive the reward of her heavenly home where there is no more pain, no more sadness, and no more death.
Jonell was born in Dallas, Texas on April 26, 1926. Her parents were Leona (Hill) and Clarence Duggan. When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Denton County where she lived in numerous locations for the next 81 years until moving to Fate, Texas in December 2012.
Jonell graduated Denton High School in 1942 at the age of 16 with a GPA of 92.8 (3 rd in her class). When she entered the first grade, she only stayed there for 2 days and was promoted to the second grade. Then when she went into the third grade, they quickly promoted her to the fourth grade. Thus she was the youngest in her graduating class. Two weeks later she began working in a dual role as a secretary at Bell Roofing and Sheet Metal Company and as a book-keeper for Merchants Finance Company in Denton, a job which she kept until 1951. Jonell was very involved and worked very hard in the family businesses throughout the years—namely J.T. Hawk Egg Farm in Argyle, Hawk Cattle Enterprises in Sanger, Truman Hawk Paint and Body Shop in Sanger, and J.T. Hawk Homebuilder in Denton. She later worked for TWU in the Payroll Department for a number of years where she prepared the payroll for the Denton, Dallas, and Houston Campuses. She retired from TWU in 1982.
While impressive, these accomplishments were not what Jonell held important. Her passion and her true devotion, second only to her love and devotion to God and Jesus Christ, was to her husband of 63 years, Truman; her two sons, James and Danny; later to her two "daughters" who she adored, Jayn and Karen; and to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was married to Truman on March 10, 1945 and from that moment forward, she took care of, provided for, and loved her family beyond measure. It was a great joy to her to be able to see and recognize all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in the days just prior to her passing.
Jonell was preceded in death by her husband Truman Hawk in 2008, her mother Leona Duggan and father Clarence Duggan, her sister Peggy Shahan and a host of loved ones and friends. She said one of the tough things about living to age 95 is losing a lot of special people.
She is survived by James and Jayn Hawk (Fate, Texas) and Danny and Karen Hawk (Richardson, Texas); four grandchildren, Janiece and Dustin McClendon (Canton, Texas), Jordan and Kelly Hawk (Fate, Texas), Jessica and Jody Garner, (White Oak, Texas), and Jacob and Suzanne Hawk (Mesquite, Texas); eleven great-grandchildren, Kate, Lauren, Hadley, Kinsley, Conway, Latham, Addie, Christian, Hayden, Hudson, and Hewitt; and many, many other relatives and friends.
Jonell was a faithful member of the Church of Christ for many years, most recently the Eastridge Church of Christ in Rockwall, Texas.
