Loran "Kay" Williams, 86, passed away at his home in Ponder, Texas on November 1, 2023. Kay was born in Denton on February 28, 1937 and was the only child of Thomas and Angie (Simpson) Williams. He was a member of the Denton High School Class of 1955.
Kay's work life began early with a newspaper delivery route on Oak Street. During his high school years he worked at a soda fountain on the Denton square and joined the United States Merchant Marine after graduation. He worked Quality Control at Otis Engineering (Elevator) and Vought Aircraft and was a police officer with the University of North Texas in the 1970s. He was the owner of Kay's Paint & Body in Denton for nearly 60 years.
He was a member of the Denton Optimist Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
Kay and Evvie Tressa Runnels were wed on July 9, 1965 and were married 58 years at his passing.
Kay's interests included restoring classic cars, riding motorcycles, participating in tractor pulls and RV living. Kay and Tressa traveled to all 50 states and much of Europe. He was a lifelong fan of all things trains.
Kay was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Tressa of Ponder, son Kevin of Denton and daughters Karen Taylor and Sondra Newkirk of Des Moines, IA, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
