Lorene Mercer left this life on April 6th 2021 to be with her family that preceded her in Heaven.
She was born to Elbert Carson Stanford and Ola Pearl Leatherwood on Sept 9th 1928 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. In 1947 she married Whit L Mercer in Weatherford, Texas. He died in 1987.
Lorene was a trail blazer for women at Moore Business Forms and Systems. She started career in 1950 at Moore near downtown and worked her way up to Executive Director of Word Processing until her retirement in 1990. She was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Denton. She and her husband owned Zeke's Drive-In and Whit's Café for many years. They also enjoyed collecting antiques and opened an antique store together.
Lorene was an avid traveler and never missed a chance to go on a trip with the church or her sorority. She was also a member of the 49ers through First Baptist Church Denton. She spent the last 15 years as a resident at the Vintage where she served on the Vintage Community Council. She volunteered for many community organizations through her lifetime. She was a founding board member of Moore Federal Credit Union, where she served until her death.
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 4 siblings, Calvin Stanford, Billie Jean Arnold, J.T Stanford and JR Stanford. She was also preceded in death by her son in law Bobby Ray Franks. She is survived by her daughter Doris Franks of Denton, Granddaughter Heather Johnson and husband Terry of Pilot Point, two great granddaughters Karsyn and Adisyn Johnson of Pilot Point. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at DeBerry Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:30am Thursday at DeBerry Chapel. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Denton at the Mercer Plot.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Richardson, Bucky Buckingham, Tracy Johnson, Randy Stanford, Randy Stanford JR and Chad Neely.
Mrs. Mercer was known as Mother, Grams, GiGi and Aunt Lorene but never Esther.
