It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Loretta Ann Garza, who left this world peacefully on January 2, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on September 8, 1960, to Agustin and Amelia Alvarado, in Lubbock, TX. She graduated from Lubbock High School in 1979 and attended Irvine Valley Community College in California. Loretta devoted her life to her family, her faith and to being an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. She was a devout Catholic, who found strength, comfort, and purpose in her relationship with God. She was the heart of her family — a loving and devoted wife, military spouse and mother, a source of comfort and compassion, and a gentle guide through life’s joys and challenges.
She was followed in death by her father Agustin Alvarado. She leaves behind her spouse Jaime Garza and is survived by her children Mindy and Stephen Kretz, Jaime Garza Jr, Chantell Garza, and Elijah Garza. Her grandchildren Veronica Kretz, Leonardo Ayala, Alexander Ayala, Stephen Isaac Kretz, Amelia Ann Kretz, Layla Rose Aviles Garza, Yaretzi Ayala, and Gianna Kretz. She also leaves behind her mother Amelia Alvarado and her brother Ron and Paige Alvarado along with a large extended family and many friends who will miss her dearly.
She was a remarkable person who spent countless hours in church volunteering and praying for all her family and friends. Her legacy is one of compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to the people whose lives she touched.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 18, 1-3 pm at Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W University Dr, Denton TX 76201, for a viewing and a rosary to be prayed in her honor. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the extraordinary woman she was.
On Monday January 19th, at 10am there will be a church service at St. Mark Catholic Church, 6500 Crawford Rd, Argyle, TX 76226. With her internment to follow at 1 pm in the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
