Obituary

Lori Humphries (Loretta Pearl McLemore), 70 of Robson Ranch, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Lori was born in Hugo, Oklahoma to Earl Lee and Hazel Alice Mills McLemore. She was the sixth of nine children in Earl and Hazel's blended family.

Lori met U.S. Air Force Captain John Humphries in Fort Worth in 1975, and they were married at the Chapel in the Hills located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, four years later. While living in Rapid City, South Dakota, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Black Hills State University.

After an Air Force assignment in Dayton, Ohio, the couple returned to Fort Worth, and they had one child, Chelsea, to complete their household. Lori and her family were active members of the North Fort Worth Historical Society, and several living history organizations throughout the years. While becoming involved with the colorful western history of the Stockyards, her artistic nature flourished. This led to a long list of creative achievements, including paintings, lost wax bronze sculptures, and textiles - ranging from decorative embroidery, leatherworking to historic western costumes and millinery.  Her enterprising nature led to the family starting many entrepreneurial endeavors, most notably, the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze in the Fort Worth Stockyards and the Mountain Maze in Ruidoso, New Mexico.

After retiring to Robson Ranch's active adult community, Lori was among the group that was instrumental in launching the now over 1,400-member bocce league. Lori was active in bowling leagues, women's club, pottery, and stained-glass work. She was often found shopping, helping both friends and strangers, update their home décor or their closets, much to the chagrin of both John and their husbands.

Lori is survived by her husband Lieutenant Colonel John E. Humphries, USAF (Ret.) of Denton, their daughter, Chelsea E. Cunningham of Houston, two brothers and a sister.

Private family services will be deferred to a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Fort Worth Historical Society would be appreciated.
