Louisa De Vastey (Mommie Za) was called home to be with the Lord on November 6, 2024.
Louisa was born in Cap Haitien, Haiti on February 28, 1921. She was the first of two children born to the late George & Sulfica Arrieux. She was baptized Catholic in her native city.
In her thirties, she met and fell in love with Andre De Vastey, and they married in 1954 in Cap Haitien. From this union five children were born.
Louisa was a charitable person who was always willing to lend a hand. She loved her children, family, and everyone she came across. More than anything in life, she loved bringing family together, and she enjoyed the simple things in life. She was an optimistic person who was always in good humor no matter what. Everything was going to be okay or work itself out.
For more than 40 years Louisa was a teacher. She loved this career, and she continued to contribute to education many years after retirement.
In 2021, she moved to Aubrey, Texas to be with her daughter, Gina.
Louisa is survived by her two sons, Joseph De Vastey (Linda) and Marc Luc De Vastey; her two daughters, Yvelise Plantin and Gina Fils-Aime (Georges); thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her nephew, Rev. James Cartright; two cousins, Lillie Bernard & Marguerite Francois.
Louisa was preceded in death by her husband, Andre and one son, George.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on November 15, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denton, Texas. Louisa's graveside committal service will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Denton immediately following the Funeral Mass.
Family and friends are invited to gather at 1227 Mallard Creek Drive, Aubrey, Texas 76227 after the graveside to celebrate the life of Mommie Za.
