Obituary

Lucius Linton Cox, Jr. of Denton, Texas, passed away on August 25, 2016 at the age of 88. Lucius was born on November 1, 1927 to Lucius Linton Cox, Sr., and Ottie Addison Cox.

A graveside service will be held at Little Elm Cemetery on Tuesday, August 30th, at 10:00 a.m.

Lucius grew up on the family farm in Denton County and, at a young age, learned the value of hard work. Shortly after graduating from high school, Lucius enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Lucius proudly served his country from March 29, 1946 to June 26, 1946 in the Occupation of Japan, and from June 27, 1946 to June 20, 1947 in the Occupation of China. During his time in the Marine Corps, Lucius also worked as a clerk (typist) and qualified as a Carbine Sharpshooter and Rifle Marksman. Lucius was a Sergeant and was honorably discharged from Marine Corps on December 11, 1947.

After leaving the military, Lucius returned home to Texas where he enrolled in North Texas State College (now known as the University of North Texas). He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in 1950 and a Master of Science in 1953.

Upon graduation, Lucius moved to Richardson, Texas, where he taught shop classes at Thomas Jefferson High School. He was awarded by the Dallas Independent School District for 30 years of service achieving perfect attendance. Lucius was a devoted teacher who helped many of his students find careers or start their own businesses. In addition to teaching, Lucius also owned a machine shop where he did contract work for Texas Instruments. He retired from teaching in 1982 and moved to live and work on his family farm.

Lucius met and married Ava Carolyn Broussard in 1984 and eventually moved back to the City of Denton where he lived until his death. During their 30+ years of marriage, they enjoyed dancing, traveling to Las Vegas and taking numerous cruises.

Lucius loved tinkering and was always working on some sort of project. Lucius believed hard work and determination was the only way to succeed.

Lucius is survived by his wife, Carolyn Cox, his five children from his previous marriage: Cathy Cox, Larry Cox, Ken Cox, Carol Cox Simmons and Patricia Cox Harris. Lucius is also survived by his his grandchildren.

Lucius supported The Wounded Warrior Project. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to this organization in his memory.
