Mansell Clyde Smith, 90, of Ponder, TX, passed away on July 11, 2022 in Denton. He was born in Lamar, Colorado to Clyde and Flossie (Barber) Smith on November 29, 1931.
He was married to the love of his life Virginia for 58 years. He was a loving husband, father, and Papa. Mansell was best known in Denton county as "Smitty". He was the founder and owner of Smitty's floor covering in Denton since 1958. He enjoyed raising pigeons which led him to be the founder of Denton racing pigeon club in 1965. Mansell was very honored to serve as a tank commander Sergeant first class 49th armored division in the Texas national guard company A, 145th tank Battalion.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Smith, daughters, Shirley Neece and husband Dan of N. Richland Hills, Darlene Rogers and husband Alvin of Krum, Teresa Smith of Ponder, Dodie Spencer and husband Brian of Plano, Cynthia Sallee and husband Reed of Ponder, sons, Ricky Smith and wife Becky of Sanger, Sil Smith of Ponder, sisters, Faye Hackler of Krum, Sandra Bohrer of Sanger, fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Dalton Smith, sister, Audie Hubbard and two grandchildren Cayce and Megan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 10-11 AM in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel. Interment will be held at Eakins Cemetery in Ponder, Texas.
Pallbearers are grandsons: Jeff Smith, Brian Smith, Colton Claytor, Cameron Sallee, Brandon and Casey Rogers.
