Marcella Ann Montgomery Wilkes, of Denton passed away on May 6, 2014 in Lewisville, TX. She was born on April 11, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN to Harry V. Montgomery and Vina Cyr Montgomery. Marcella joined the US Navy in 1944 and served as a S1/CYS (Seaman 1st Class Yeoman Striker) Navy WAVES and was stationed at the US Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie, TX. She also received honorable recognition as a member of the WWII Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Wilkes attended Texas Christian University (TCU) in Ft. Worth, TX. Marcella was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Denton, TX, AARP, and The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
She is survived by sons, Stephen Wilkes and wife Karen of The Colony, TX, Thomas Wilkes and wife Linda of Ovilla, TX, Michael Wilkes and wife Erica of Krum, TX, daughters, Melissa Wilkes Fernelius of Denton, TX and Teresa Wilkes Landry and husband Barry Landry of Denton, TX; sister, Rita Montgomery of Denver, CO; brothers, Donald Montgomery of Edina, MN and Paul Montgomery, Sr. of Hastings, MN. Marcella is also survived by grandchildren, Tim Wilkes and fiancé Marie Davis, Brian and wife Dani Wilkes, Rachael, Wendi, and Brantlin Wilkes, Janna Landry and Joshua Fernelius and 2 great grandchildren, Noah and Enzo and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Robert (Bob), Harry, and Richard Montgomery.
Visitation and Rosary will be from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at DeBerry Funeral Directors located at 2025 W. University Dr., Denton, TX and will be officiated by Father Tim Thompson of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX. Memorials may be made to Marcella Wilkes memorial, Boys Town, 300 Flanagan Blvd., P. O.
