Margaret Ann Giles, 84, of Justin, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by love ones on October 4, 2026. She was born on June 10, 1942, in Canyon, Texas, to Conrad and Elizabeth Westhoff. From an early age, Margaret learned the value of hard work on the family farm, where she and her sisters did everything from milking cows to baling hay. They also enjoyed the joys of farm life, barn dances, gatherings, and time spent with their close-knit, German community, where many of her extended family members also lived.

After graduating from Umbarger High School, Margaret worked for many years as an insurance underwriter before retiring. She later turned her creative and business talents toward offering seamstress services. She could quilt, sew, and mend nearly anything made of fabric. She also gave generously of her time by volunteering at the Loreto House, a pregnancy and parenting resource center.

Margaret was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and generous spirit. She was devoted to the Catholic faith and church. In all areas of her life, her sincere love for God, family, and the simple beauty found in each day was shown in all she did. She had a beautiful smile and a contagious laugh, and she was known to be a genuine listener, gentle in spirit, and caring person for all she met. She was a constant source of comfort, encouragement and reassurance to all she knew.

Spring was Margaret’s favorite time of year, when she spent time gardening, planting, and tending to her flowers, orchids being her specialty. Margaret was also an extraordinarily talented cook, who loved to make comfort foods for loved ones and sweets for her grandchildren.

Margaret’s (or “Mimi”, as she was called by loved ones) greatest joy was family. She treasured the time spent with those she loved and created a home where kindness, warmth, and above all, love, were always present. Mimi had a rare ability to see beauty in ordinary things and to make others feel heard and valued. Her encouraging presence, enduring faith, and steadfast love for her family will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

Margaret is survived by her beloved husband, Hubert Giles; their daughter, Lisa Kelsey and her husband, John; and her son, Eric Giles and his wife, Ashlee. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kara Eveleth and her husband, Tyler, and their son, Levi; Kyle Kelsey and his wife, Destinee; and Ben and Jake Giles. She is also survived by her sisters Helen Schwertner, Gladys Meyer, and Catherine Freeby, as well as many nieces and nephews of many generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Elizabeth Westhoff; first husband, George Frank; and her sisters, Theresa Westhoff, Rita Artho, and Alice Allen.

Margaret’s life was one of faithfulness, creativity, service, and love. She will be remembered not only for all she did for those around her, but for how she lived out her Faith. Her family and friends will forever be grateful for the laughter and memories she shared with them.

To celebrate Margaret the way she lived, please wear bright and cheerful colors, a reflection of her eternal optimism and joyful spirit.
