Obituary

Martin Brian Carey, of Denton, passed away at his home on December 29, 2015, at the age of 76. Brian was born on June 28, 1939, to John J. and Mary Agnes Foy Carey in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York. He married his wife of 32 years, Johnnie Martin-Carey in 1983 in Maui, Hawaii.

Brian spent his professional career in the computer, finance, and telecommunications industries. After graduating from RPI, he worked for Sperry Univac in the US, Korea and Hawaii. In 1970 he started what would be a long career with the Federal Reserve System, first on the staff of the Board of Governors in Washington and later as Senior Vice President overseeing the procurement, design and implementation of the US wire transfer system (FRCS80) for the transfer of money throughout the US banking system. He left the FRS at the conclusion of that implementation and moved to Texas to work for Northern Telecom, ultimately starting his own private telecommunications consulting company, Martin-Carey, Inc. where he advised in the installation of complex telecom systems for a number of large financial institutions.

In retirement, Brian spent his time actively pursuing his passion for history and staying abreast of current events and politics. He also loved discussing and consulting with his 2 nephews on the startup of their own successful internet companies. He was able to indulge his love for the multiple Bouviers he and Johnnie owned over the years, as well as Johnnie's horses and miniature horses, Itty, Bitty and Little Knot, at Steele Away Farm in Argyle, Texas. In 2014, Brian suffered a debilitative stroke and he and Johnnie relocated to nearby Robson Ranch in Denton. Throughout his illness, Brian maintained his wonderful sense of humor and loved to chat with his caretakers.

Brian is survived by his wife, Johnnie Martin-Carey of Denton, his mother, Mary Agnes Carey of Hollywood FL, and a sister, Mary Margaret Carey McCarthy of Pittsburg, Penn, in addition to several nieces and nephews and their families, whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his brother John Carey, Jr. of also of Penn.

A reflection of Brian's life will be held at his home in Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas, on Sunday, January 3rd. In lieu of flowers please make a donation or memorial to an animal rescue charity of your choice.
