Marvin Joiner, 80, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016. Marvin was born October 22, 1935 in Gilmer, Texas to Robert Davis and Effie (Sue) Harwell Joiner. After graduating from high school in Tyler, Texas, Marvin attended the University of Texas and never lost his love for the Longhorns. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in business. He later received his MBA from University of Dallas in Irving.
Marvin met Joyce Conaway in Lubbock, Texas at First United Methodist Church. They married on November 24, 1962. Marvin was active in the United Methodist Church where he served in a number of leadership and volunteer roles through the years. He was an active member of the Searchers Class at First United Methodist Church in Denton.
He retired from the American Petroleum Institute where he was a Quality Control Manager. Marvin also taught classes at Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch.
Marvin and Joyce retired to Robson Ranch in 2002 where they enjoyed many activities and friendships.
Marvin is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; daughter, Sue and her wife, Anne Marie Strangio and their children Max and Maya; son, Scott, grandsons Clay and Ben, and Scott's fiancé Juli Kamenica; sister-in-law Kay Joiner; brother-in-law Boyd Conaway and his wife Danna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister JoAnna, and brother Robert, Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27th from 5:00-7:00 pm at DeBerry Funeral Home 2025 W. University Dr., Denton, TX 76201. The Memorial Service will be Thursday, April 28th at 1:30 pm at First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust Street, Denton, TX 76201.
