Obituary

Mary Jo Atkins, 97, of Denton passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Mary Jo (best known as Jo) enjoyed shopping and sewing crafts for her annual Christmas Craft Show she participated in each year. She had a passion for quilting and fabric and was co-owner for the craft and antique store The Farmers Daughter . She enjoyed camping with her husband on the lakes surrounding Daisey, Arkansas every summer rain or shine. She worked as secretary to the Dean of Students and Student Affairs at North Texas where she retired. She prided herself with her "short hand" and typing skills. She volunteered for 15 years at Ruth's Room where she loved organizing the crafts and sewing section. She did love a good garage sale and was known to have one herself annually and often semi-annually.

She is survived by her daughter Sharron Atkins Hudson and husband James of Denton, TX, her granddaughter Ashley McKethan and husband Keith of Murphy, Texas, daughter-in-law Rebecca Atkins and grandsons Clay and Parker Atkins, and two great grandchildren Kate and Jake McKethan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Kim and Grace Hargis, her husband Clayton Atkins, and her son Kim Atkins.

She will be forever remembered for her sense of humor, sweet smile, and unique storytelling. Her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren was endless to the moon and back.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation ( JDRF.org )
