Mary Frances Ferrill, (Mutt), passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, in Denton, Texas, at the age of 102. Born on April 30, 1924, in Arlington, Texas. Mutt lived a remarkable life that spanned over a century. During that time, she had many adventures and touched many hearts. Mutt was one of 10 children born to Doc and Etta Mae Fanning of Arlington, Texas who preceded her in death. Mutt was nicknamed by her older brothers who also had interesting nicknames. Mutt and her siblings attended Grace Chapel school in Arlington, TX.
Mutt met and married the love of her life Herbert, and together they built a fabulous life in Denton, TX spanning over 80 years. They raised 2 children, Warren and Deborah in the house they built. Their home was filled with golfers and football players from UNT where a Herbert was a coach. Mutt was an avid card player who rarely played without money involved. She was also known for her home cooked meals and pies. Mutt was shark at bridge and played multiple times a week. She also was a member of the Denton First Baptist Church where she volunteered frequently. She also volunteered for Ann’s Haven Hospice after her children were grown. She and Herbert went on many road trips with her family. Mutt loved spending time with her grandchildren and there were many visits to the tooth fairy park (McKenna Park). There were numerous family trips including one to a dude ranch, New York City and Destin Florida. Many beautiful memories were made.
Family was the cornerstone of Mutts life. She was delighted by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to hold a baby. Mutt hosted the card players at her house every Sunday afternoon where cards were played and dinner was served. This is a 30+ year custom. The card players who are: Deborah and husband Larry May, Warren and wife Louise Ferrill, John Weston and Sandra Gayle Barber, will continue the tradition going forward.
Mutt is survived by her son, Warren Ferrill and wife Louise Ferrill, daughter Deborah May and husband Larry, and her sister Sandra Gayle Barber. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Coutu and husband Bobby, Lori McHale and husband Chris, daughter in law Sondra Ferrill, Keith May and wife Katie, Brent May and wife Cindy, Ashley Burt and husband Mark.
She is preceded in death by her grandson Allen Ferrill. She is survived by her 15 great grandchildren: Robby, Aly, Maddy, Drake, Dirk, Kennedi, Finley, Keira, Abby, Ashton, Bailey, Tucker, Ellie, Libby and Jack. Mutt had a massive extended family of nieces and nephews who loved Mutt and were loved by her in return.
Services will be held on Saturday August 29th at DeBerry Funeral Home located at 2025 West University Dr. Denton, TX 76201. Visitation will be held at 10AM followed by her funeral service at 11AM. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery for family after the funeral.
There will be a gathering at Mutts home, 1300 Ector St. Denton TX following the funeral, family will join after the burial.
