Mary Jo Hill, 87, of Denton passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Corinth. She was born November 8, 1925 in Aubrey, TX to Grover Henderson and Lona Bell Caddell Henderson. She married Edward Hill on May 11, 1946, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Mary Jo graduated from Aubrey High School, attended Texas Woman's University, and was a member of the Welch St. Church of Christ. She was also a member of Denton Lioness Club for 25 years, a member of the Professional Business Women's Association, and was active in many church activities.
Mary Jo worked in the Denton County Clerk's office for 28 years. She was elected Denton County Clerk in 1974 and served 3 terms retiring from the County in 1986. She was one of the most loved and respected elected officials in Denton County. She educated many a young lawyer on how to use the information from the Clerk's records for their law practice. She was one of the first County Elected Officials in Denton County and the State of Texas to computerize their office. She also put voter registration on the computer which was quite a task in those days. Mary Jo loved serving the people of Denton County and made that her life's work.
Mary Jo loved bowling, baking, and baseball. She loved to cook, especially bake, for others and her kids, was an avid bowler, and was a big fan of the Texas Rangers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at DeBerry Funeral Directors. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Terry Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Little Elm Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 9400 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75231, or to the charity of your choice.
Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Ruby Raines and husband, Steve; sons, Donald Hill and wife Gail, and Michael Hill and Ruth; grandchildren, Tyler Hill Raines and wife Anne, Stacey Raines Hooker and husband Travis, and David Hill; and great granddaughter, Karlee. She is preceded in death by her husband, and her parents.
