Mary Helen Kaplan Holland passed away Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016. She was born November 10, 1922 in New Orleans, LA to Michael John Kaplan and Nancy Virginia Tanner Kaplan. She graduated from North Texas Demonstration School and completed courses at the US Army Corps of Engineers School. She married Leslie T. Holland on December 29, 1939 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on February 14, 2011.
Mary Helen was a Personnel Management Specialist for the US Army Corps of Engineers, SW Division Office. She retired in 1975 after 23 years of service. She was a member of the North Texas Ramblers RV Club, Good Sam Eagles RV Club, Federal Center Wives Club and a member of the Ruth Class at the First Baptist Church of Denton.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Tunnell and her husband Ralph of Denton, Mary Higgins of Plano, granddaughter, Rebecca Norris of Garland, grandsons, Chris Higgins of Carrollton, Sean Higgins of Roswell, GA, Ronny Higgins of Waco, Robert Tunnell of Denton, nine great grandchildren; Shannon Mason, Barrett and Gavynn Norris, Madison Higgins, Cole Higgins, Hudson Higgins, Avery Higgins, Eli Higgins, Josiah Higgins and a niece Joneva McElhinney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Jennifer Mason, sister, Mildred L. Glenn, brother, John T. Kaplan.
The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors Wednesday night from 5-7 p.m. for visitation. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday afternoon in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Ronny Higgins officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
