Mary Mathews of Krum, Texas passed away on September 1, 2018 in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was born on September 18, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George and Beverly Pepperdine. Mary graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in California. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and later received her teacher's certificate at Texas Woman's University.
Mary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She married Lorin Mathews for time and all eternity at the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on May 23, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She served in various capacities throughout the years, including as a Seminary Teacher and the Young Woman's President. Mary was also a Master Gardener and a contributor for the Foxborough Reporter. She greatly loved writing, gardening, continuously learning, and genealogy. Mary loved the sunshine and wildflowers. Bluebonnets were especially loved. She took great joy in her family, especially as a mother to her three daughters.
Mary is survived by her husband, Lorin of Krum; daughters, Lisa Mathews of Virginia; Rebecca Mathews of Farmers Branch; and Heidi (Patrick) Washington of Fort Worth; as well as two grandchildren, Miles and Parker Washington. She is also survived by her brother Alan (Kristi) Pepperdine of Carrollton, sisters Diana (Jamie) Catlin of Utah; Karen Karl of North Richland Hills; Donna (David) Evans of Virginia; Rosa (Calvin) Hamilton of Maryland; and sisters-in-law, Cindy Pepperdine of Frisco and Carol Pepperdine of Utah.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Beverly Pepperdine as well as beloved brothers David Pepperdine and Scott Pepperdine and treasured pet Sunny.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 8:45 AM-10 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Malone Street in Denton, Texas. Services will begin at 10:00 AM at the Church. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, Texas.
