Beloved music teacher and musician Mary Dennis Poulter, 72, of Westford, MA and Denton, TX, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 after a valiant fight against pancreatic cancer.
Mary was born August 2, 1942 in Pasadena, CA to Howard Drayton Dennis and Vera Hawkins Dennis. Vera passed away shortly after Mary's birth. Mary was raised by her paternal grandmother, Mabel Jordan Pitts Dennis, until Howard met and married Pearl Elise Elkins in 1944, who raised Mary as her own. The family moved to Huntington Beach, CA where Mary lived until she left for college in 1960.
While at Brigham Young University she met and married Vernon Carl Poulter, II, February 2, 1962. They lived in Utah and Washington while raising their three children. They moved to Westford, MA in 1971 where their fourth child was born. Westford was their home for the next 31 years, with the exception of their four years in Hong Kong. Mary and Vern moved to Denton in 2002.
Mary spent her life dedicated to music and music education. She truly believed that music was a prayer from the heart. She was an accomplished performer, composer, director, and teacher touching the lives of hundreds of students and many others throughout the world.
She is survived by her children Michael (Angela), Stephen (Carrie), Amy (Richard) Troop, and Elizabeth (Kim) Stolt; her brother, Howard S. Dennis; beloved cousins Diana Warner and Barbara McAllister; brothers-in-law, Lynn Poulter and Michael Cosman; 15 grandchildren; and 16 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Vernon, of 44 years (2006).
The viewing will be held Sunday, April 26, 6:30 pm at the LDS Stake Center, 3000 Old North Road, Denton TX. Funeral services will be at the same building the following day, Monday, April 27 at 10 am.
