IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Elizabeth
Thomann
December 19, 1952 – July 25, 2024
Mary Elizabeth Thomann, age 71, passed away on the evening of July 25, 2024, with her family by her side.
Born December 19, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri, Mary was the youngest child of Mary and Hyle Webb. In her childhood years, she moved multiple times including to California and later to Ohio where she attended Firestone High School. Mary met her lifelong friend, partner, and husband, Tim Thomann, while in her teens. Tim remained by her side as she earned her bachelor's in psychology from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio.
After graduation, Tim and Mary married on August 17, 1974, and were soon to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Mary and Tim settled down in Texas and had three children, Geof, Becky, and Zach.
Mary spent most of her career in the banking industry and loved to chat with her customers, who were more like friends. Mary was always active within the community. In her younger years she found a passion in the Newfoundland Water Rescue Association and showing dogs in obedience. Later she volunteered as soccer commissioner and coach and taught Sunday School at her church. More recently she volunteered her time on the board of an adult daycare, garden club, Lions Club, and Denton Main Street Association, as well as a delegate for the Denton Chamber of Commerce.
Her favorite place to be was at home on her land listening, watching and feeding birds while in the company of Tim and her dogs. Mary and Tim both completed Master Naturalist certifications after retirement and joined the Elm Fork Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists. Mary started a bird sanctuary on her property and taught nature classes to the community in Denton. She loved to go to the Stock Show and Rodeo and was known to pop up around the Metroplex for a Stoney LaRue concert. She was a member of Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay, Texas.
She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Tim Thomann, her three children, Geof (Jenn) Thomann, Becky (Stephen) Balding, Zach (Charlsi) Thomann; sisters Susan Long and Margaret Webb; nine grandchildren; and three beloved dogs.
Mary will be remembered for her gentle spirit, love of nature and animals, and devotion to making life better for all.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, at Flower Mound United Methodist Church at 3950 Bruton Orand Blvd. in Flower Mound, Texas.
