Mary Ellen Wood passed away peacefully at age 91 on January 29th, 2021. She was born October 21st, 1929, in McKinney, Texas, to Thelma Carmen and Howard Standley.

Mary always shined through as being the most loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her caring embrace radiated to her family and anyone she encountered. She is happy to be with her husband, Clarence J. "Woody" Wood Jr., and son Standley, who preceded her in death. She leaves behind two daughters: Christie Wood and husband George D'Ascenzo, Candis Kimball and husband Bob Kimball, and a granddaughter, Carmen Lessa and her husband Dominic Lessa.

Mary was passionate about music and was playing and singing up to the day she passed. Mary received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from North Texas State Teacher's College (now the University of North Texas). She earned her Master's Degree in Music Education from Louisiana Tech University. Mary was a music teacher in Shreveport, Louisiana for 30 years, teaching all levels of music from elementary general music, beginners strings programs, and High School Band. Generations of musicians owe their start to this remarkable lady.
