Matthew was a student at NCTC and aspired to the field of Physics. Hobbies included music, longboarding, eating, deep discussions, and making people laugh. He played the trumpet, guitar, and taught himself the piano. His recent enthusiasm involved cooking, which would have made both grandmothers proud. He adored his nieces, Macie and Avery, who themselves loved their Uncle Matt. He spent hours with them teaching them music, playing outside, and watching Disney movies with them. He had a brilliant mind and sharp wit. "Only Matthew could pick up Beethoven in 3 weeks," remarked one of his friends. He mastered every kind of Rubik's cube and taught himself juggling at an early age.

He could fix anything and helped anyone who needed it. He seemed to be an expert at everything from computers to homebuilding to landscaping. He gave shoulder massages freely and was always up for a hug. His thoughtfulness for others was unsurpassed. He always seemed to know when someone was hurting and wouldn't hesitate to reach out to them. His friends remember him for his compassion and deep thought. His artistic gifting showed through his ability to hear music and play it on the piano, even complex music.

Matt fought a brave battle against schizophrenia, of which he was officially diagnosed at age 18. He passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017. We all have a hole in our hearts, but we're confident we will see him again in the Kingdom of Heaven.
