Obituary

Amalio "Mayo" Cantu, 86 of Denton, Texas, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at his home.  Mayo was born in Nueces County to the late Juan and Petra Molina Cantu on February 15, 1935. Mayo attended Lewis Barber College. After graduation in 1957, he opened his first barber shop in Robstown, Texas. In 1964, Mayo moved to Denton, Texas where he owned and operated Mayo's Barber Shop on West Prairie. He was a Master Barber for over 60 years. Mayo was also a Freemason.

Mayo is preceded in death by his parents and well as two children; a daughter, Mary Cantu and a son, David Andrew Cantu.

Mayo is survived by his son, Robert E. Cantu, who resides in Austin, Texas; daughters, Cheryl Cantu-Mireles and her husband, Joe Mireles, who reside in Fort Worth, Texas; and a daughter Rebecca Lynn Cantu, who resides in San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by two beloved grandsons, Antonio Andres Mireles who resides in Austin, Texas and Nichols Alexander Cantu who attends college in Sherman, Texas.

Anyone who knew Mayo knew her was a special soul; he will be missed.  Mayo's children appreciate your love and support as they mourn the loss of their father.
