Obituary

Megan Katherine Labrum was born on February 25, 2001 in Austin, Texas. She was lovingly adopted by Kim and Jason Labrum. Megan had strawberry blonde hair and the most striking blue eyes. She always made what her family called, the O face. She would open her mouth into an O shape whenever anything shocked or excited her. Her family would all ask her to make the face anytime we needed a laugh. Megan's older sister Hailee prayed for her every night till she was four years old hoping for a baby sister. She was so thrilled to have her very own baby doll to play with daily. Megan was a very easy going and happy baby full of laughter and spunk. She was known by all to be the disappearing kid that would go close herself in a room and stay entertained for at least an hour all by herself. Megan was easily amused by others and herself.

When she was 2 ½ her baby brother Brady became her built-in best friend with similar interests. They were glued to each other's sides at all times and could always be found laughing and exploring together. When she was 3 years old, she moved to her dream home in Krum, Texas which was her safe haven and playground. Megan and Hailee liked to try to find creative things to make their brother do by seeing how many crazy things they could talk him into doing. There was always promised money that never showed up as he has liked to remind them over the years. At one point, they even got him to eat multiple pieces of goat poop for 25 cents a piece.

She found most of her happiness through her siblings, animals, and adventures on the farm. One of her favorite things was a pink baby doll gifted to her by grandma labrum. She always had to have one of the babies in her hands and ended up needing three so that if one was washing, she would always have one to hold. Megan had an obsession with dressing up as Snow White for almost a year straight. Everywhere she would go, the Snow White costume went as well. Megan refused to learn to ride a bike so got an electric scooter instead.  On family bike rides, she would ride her scooter happily. When she was 8 she finally rode a bike after getting teased by her family enough and pushed by Brady.

Everyone that knew Megan was able to clearly see her love and passion for all animals. She protected all creatures and never wanted any of them to be harmed, including bugs and snakes. Throughout her whole life, She would sneak animals into the house when her parents were gone. Once, she brought a mouse into the house that she lost and was not able to find for almost a year. She also brought in cats, dogs, and goats. Megan bottle raised goats and was very careful to make sure they were given the best care. She loved her goats so much that she even had one tattooed onto her arm. Because of her great love for animals, she became a devout vegetarian because she could not stand the thought of causing unnecessary pain to anything. One of Megan's great accomplishments in her young age was creating her very own egg selling business called, "Meg's Eggs".

Megan was incredibly artistic. She was never formally taught but still possessed a talent that was almost beyond belief. She loved to free hand draw but did not want a career of it because she never wanted to lose her love for art. She also never wanted anyone to tell her how to do her art as it was her most freeing form of expression. Megan loved reading anything with Harry Potter or dragons and had a deep love for Britney spears and thrifting. Once, she and her friend Maddy thrifted old tuxes and swam in a lake and went to ihop at 1am. Megan was forced to take piano but never liked it. To get out of it she had to start wearing contacts instead of glasses. This was a fight her parents fought for a few weeks before finally getting her to try putting in a contact. Her dad would literally lay her on the floor every morning and have to force her to put contacts in one by one. She had many younger cousins and was always the life of the party. Megan could always be found creating activities and plays for everyone to participate in. When she was 13, all her boy cousins had to take turns sitting beside Megan in the van because they all fought over getting to be beside her.

Megan discovered a new love of music in the high school marching band where she played the trumpet. She showed pigs, chickens, cows, and goats for the Krum FFA through high school.  She loved her pigs enough that she would literally lie down in the pens to be with them. Megan graduated from Krum High School in 2018 in the top 15% of her class. She got a scholarship to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Megan majored in horticulture and was proud to be the treasurer of the horticulture club. She was on the dean's list for the first year of school and even gained an additional scholarship for her high success. Throughout her college time, Addi and Megan grew very close. Each time she came home for a break or a weekend, she made an effort to spend quality time laughing and adventuring with her sister who she often referred to as baby. Addi would call Megan cabbage in response.  Megan made very close friends at tech that were constant supports for her over the last few years. Megan was incredibly intelligent and creative. She brought joy to people through her videos because they brought light and happiness into others lives.

Recently, Megan moved back to Denton and transferred to UNT to major in ecology and environmental studies. She had a special cat named Arnie that became her comfort and best friend. He has supported her through some of her hardest moments. Megan has fought a battle with her mental health for many years and has worked diligently to be as strong as she could for her loved ones. She did her best to put on a happy face for those she loved because of her beautiful qualities of charity and forgiveness. Over the last few months, Megan has been able to build a special relationship with her birth parents Todd and Carmen. They have given her an extra sense of strength and support she could not find elsewhere. Todd and Carmen have made special efforts to spend time with her and our immediate family to grow bonds between all that will continue to last. Megan continued to show love and kindness to others through her last months despite the pain she felt inside. She had the kindest heart, bravest mind, and fiercest soul. Her legacy of happiness and kindness will continue to impact the lives of all those that cared for her over the span of her 20 years. She will be loved and missed by many but has left behind treasures both materialistically and emotionally for us to cherish and hold on to.
