Melinda Ann Brockington Turnage, 54, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones at home. Born on February 15,1960, in Lancaster, Texas, Melinda attended Lancaster High School and Cedar Valley College before earning her BA in journalism from North Texas State University in 1983. Melinda worked as a graphic artist at the MD Squadron and was also the acting Baroness of her region in the Society for Creative Anachronisms. During her three year battle with cancer, she displayed true faith and dedication to Christ as she courageously and selflessly fought cancer according to God's will. A unique and beautiful soul, Melinda will be greatly missed.
Melinda is survived by her husband Doug Turnage of Krum, children Ashley Peet of Fort Worth and Brandon Peet of Arlington, parents R.L. and Merle Brockington of Whitney, brother David Brockington of Denton and his wife Susan, father and mother-in-law Norman and Betty Turnage of North Richland Hills, brother-in-law Scott and wife Sue Turnage of North Richland Hills, and sister-in-law Amy and husband Don Cheatam of Weatherford. She also has four nieces and nephews. Melinda is predeceased by her grandparents.
Visitation will be held at the DeBerry Funeral Directors Friday, August 1, 2014, from 6-8. The memorial service is Saturday, August 2, 2014 at The Village Church (Denton Campus), at 4:00. A graveside service will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Krum. The family will receive visitors afterward in their home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Melinda's name to the Compassion International at Compassion.com.
