Melvin Smith 97, of Lubbock, formerly of Denton passed away May 19, 2022 at the Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.  He was born December 27, 1924 in Argyle to Arthur and Eunice Woods Smith.  He graduated from Denton High School and attended the University of North Texas.  He was a USA Army Veteran.

Melvin married Lucille Gaston on May 23, 1945 in Denton, she preceded him in death on September 8, 2003.  He was a Mechanical Supervisor for the US Postal Service in Dallas, Texas.  He was a member of the Plainview Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at DeBerry Funeral Directors Thursday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. with the service to begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors.  Burial will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Rev. Curtis Clements will officiate.

He is survived by; daughter, Kathie Toole and husband Greg of Lubbock, son, Frank Smith of Arizona, sister Wilma Herring of Denton, 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter, Margaret Graham and one grandchild.
