Michael Gene Hodson of Denton, Texas, passed away November 4, 2022. He was 60 years old.
Mike was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gene Rene Hodson and Sandra Lee Fowler. He was the eldest of six children. His childhood was filled with wild adventures from jumping off the house into snow drifts to train hopping so he could sled down the steep inclines of Ogden Canyon. He was always willing to try anything at least once. Mike's mother taught him to be a salesman at an early age. He pulled a wagon toting his wares to sell to unsuspecting neighbors. During his high school years, he went to school in the mornings and skied in the afternoons. He worked long hours at night stocking grocery shelves where he earned enough money to further his entrepreneurial dreams.
When he was 21 years of age, he served an 18-month mission for his church in Florida where his love of golf received its inception. In the mid 80's Mike purchased and opened the first Subway franchises in Utah. He began his work in the insurance business where he took the industry by surprise with his ambitious attitude and tenacious work ethic. Upon moving to Austin, Mike became a Texas Longhorn fan and enjoyed attending many sporting events. Mike played as much golf as possible each week. He ensured his business travels coincided closely with the PGA circuit so he could often play in ideal weather conditions. He invested much time and energy while working with clients, creating many long-lasting friendships. His friendly and infectious smile ensured he never met a stranger.
The father of three sons, he spent a lot of time outdoors with his boys golfing, hunting, skiing, boating, and traveling. They played sports of all kinds together. He was a very good badminton player. Being a grandfather brought him much happiness. It was always his desire to be a good example to his grandchildren. He wanted his six grandchildren to know how much he loved them.
Mike was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed doing genealogy and shared that passion with the youth. His testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ was apparent. He had a deep understanding of scriptures and loved to share his knowledge.
In 2016 Mike and Heather married. They enjoyed being active in their community attending concerts, dances, playing bocce and bowling. He enjoyed helping others improve their golf game.
Mike is survived by his wife, Heather Hodson; sons: Michael Scott and Mandy Hodson of Farr West, Utah, Corey and Jessy Hodson of Syracuse, Utah, and Clifford and Liz Hodson of McKinney, Texas; father, Gene Hodson of Waco; brother, David and LuAnn Hodson of Waco, Texas; sister, Marilee Hodson of Waco, Texas; grandchildren, Mckayla and Carly Hodson, Brock and Nikki Hodson, Tegan and Kora Hodson; step-daughters, Desiree Daily, Madeleine and Marvin Mendoza, Betsy "Bo" Carr, aunts: Cindy and Scott Browning, Vicki and Paul Woodin, Patti and Scott Goodell.
